Founder

Katy Lydon McGreevy

Katy works at the intersection of farming, food access, urban planning, and community development.

Her experience spans hands-on growing, urban farm outreach, food hub coordination, farmer and community partnerships, program development, and business development. She has worked with farmers, restaurants, schools, nonprofits, and neighborhood organizations to connect food production, land, and community needs.

Her professional path includes AmeriCorps service with Arkansas GardenCorps at Dunbar Garden in Little Rock, Arkansas; sales and outreach work with Garden Dreams Urban Farm & Nursery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; food hub coordination with Eastern Market Partnership in Detroit, Michigan; and business development with Growing High Point in High Point, North Carolina. Half Acre on Hubbard brings that experience together with her practical garden work and planning education.

Education
Master of Urban Planning (MUP), with a focus in Housing and Community Development, Wayne State University, 2024
BA in Anthropology and History, Emory University, 2011

Her goal is not to impose one idea of what a garden should be. It is to understand what a person or organization needs from a space and develop a practical way for that space to become more useful, ecologically valuable, and connected to everyday life.

The approach

Work with the place, the people, and what is available

Productive green spaces can grow food and flowers, support pollinators and other wildlife, offer opportunities for learning, and create value for households and organizations.

That can mean a front-yard mini farm, a small orchard, a pollinator planting, a school garden, a workshop, a phased plan, or guidance that helps a group move from an idea to implementation.
